"YOGA ISN'T JUST ABOUT BEING ABLE TO TOUCH YOUR TOES. IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU LEARN ON THE WAY DOWN."
- Steven Inghram
Yoga is for EVERYONE & EVERY-BODY!
ALL are welcome to practice yoga regardless of your age, body type, amount of flexibility, physical ability, diagnosed condition(s), gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, or religious/spiritual preferences.
As the saying goes, “If you can breathe, you can do yoga!”
Even though our Western culture promotes yoga as a purely physical practice, there’s actually more to it than that.
The truth is...
YOGA MEANS UNION.
This word is derived from the ancient language of Sanskrit from the root word, “Yuj” which means “to unite”.
What are we uniting?
MIND + BODY + SPIRIT
Yoga is really a holistic set of practices that includes mind and ethical principles, physical movement, breath practices, and meditative practices; all of which focus on turning our awareness inward so that we can touch more deeply the truth of who we are with more acceptance, love, and presence. This not only benefits our own health and well-being personally; it also benefits our relationships with our friends and loved ones.
As we journey on this path of yoga we come to acknowledge that yoga isn’t just about touching our toes, it’s about what we learn on the way down.
Throughout my years of teaching yoga, it has become apparent that there has been a lingering need for yoga classes tailored to the GSM (LGBTQIA+) community, simply because there are not many out there in existence. For many of us who struggle with our gender identity, sexual orientation, or other aspects of our human experience, we become quite disembodied due to cultural, religious, and familial expectations as to how we are expected to "show up" in the world.
Yoga, however, offers us a practice that ultimately allows us to dive deep within ourselves to begin embodying the truth of who we are no matter where we are in our lives. You may not yet exist in a place where you can be free to live the fullest expression of your truth. However, in this moment, through mindful awareness, we can provide a more nourishing and accepting space for that version of ourselves to fully bloom.
Yoga simply asks that we show up with a kind and gentle awareness and allow that process to unfold.
So, what do you say?
Are you ready to try out some yoga in a completely safe space with those who already support and love you?
Take a few moments to get an up close and personal glimpse into Steven's life journey and how yoga played a role in his healing process.
"TRUE YOGA IS NOT ABOUT THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY,
BUT THE SHAPE OF YOUR LIFE."
- Aadil Palkhivala
